The magnetic separator for fabric filters is designed to capture magnetic metal contaminants from liquids or similar substances with a near-liquid consistency that are conveyed through filtration assemblies.
Magsy offers several levels of magnetic induction – magnetic strength – for magnetic rods used in fabric filters. Depending on the type of material that will flow past the magnetic rods, it is necessary to select the appropriate magnetic strength. Our specialists will recommend it after consulting with you about your production environment and technological options.
For some separation applications, a deeper magnetic circuit is required so that metal contaminants are partially attracted from a greater distance and then held firmly. This generally applies to magnetic separation and the capture of larger ferromagnetic contaminants.
For other applications, the magnetic circuit depth should instead be reduced as much as possible to maximise the holding force and reliably retain even the finest ferromagnetic contaminants with the consistency of sticky sludge after they have been captured.
All this is combined with a very thin wall separating the liquid from the magnets. The wall thickness is usually 0.5 to 0.7 mm , depending on the selected magnetic strength and the required magnetic separation quality.
In all cases, the metal contaminant must come into the closest possible contact with the magnetic rod. This is generally difficult to achieve in fabric filters, so contact with the magnetic rods is replaced by a longer period during which the liquid remains in the candle filter, which also extends the processing time.
For this reason, our company also offers enhanced magnetic separation by installing two magnetic rods in a specially modified magnetic rod holder. This avoids extending the time spent in the filtration unit, while the greater number of magnetic rods in the holder increases the probability of capturing ferromagnetic contaminants.
For reference, you can download a graphshowing how magnetic induction and pull-off force decrease as the distance from the magnetic rod increases. This confirms that installing more rods increases the probability of capturing ferromagnetic contaminants.
The magnetic rods are installed in specially developed holders designed directly for most fabric filter sizes and capable of accommodating one or two magnetic rods. The holder fits comfortably and ergonomically into the groove in the candle filter while maintaining maximum system tightness during installation.
The number of rods to be installed depends on the production technology and the customer’s requirements for the resulting magnetic separation.
The magnet for fabric filters with one rod (MTF – 1) consists of one magnetic rod and a stainless-steel holder for one rod.
The magnet for fabric filters with two rods (MTF – 2) consists of two magnetic rods and a stainless-steel holder for two rods.
A recess is provided in the upper section to secure the magnetic rod perfectly when it is installed in the auxiliary holder.
The specially designed open magnetic circuit, with a shorter or longer arc between the pole pieces, ensures the maximum magnetic pull-off force required for your application.
The standard version is made of stainless steel 1.4301 / AISI 304. For environments with aggressive pH levels, we can provide a version made of 1.4404 / AISI 316on request. All materials are certified and comply with EU standards.
The standard temperature resistance of the magnetic rods is up to 80 °C. On request, we can prepare magnetic rods for use at higher temperatures of up to 200 °C. At higher temperatures, the standard magnetic values must be expected to decrease by approximately 10–20%, depending on the selected temperature resistance.
The holder is surface-finished by ceramic bead blasting, resulting in a uniform matt surface. The overall design is robust and rigid and can withstand demanding handling.
A telescopic locking pin is located in the upper part of the magnetic rod holder. It securely fixes the magnetic rod in the holder and also allows it to be removed very easily for cleaning.
A particularly important part of the magnetic rod holder is the perforated, weight-reduced stainless-steel partition. For safety reasons, it ensures that the magnetic rods remain fully separated during cleaning. This applies to the version fitted with two rods.
After removing a magnetic rod from the holder, simply wipe it along its axis. When using a holder with two magnetic rods, remove and clean them one at a time.
Because the magnetic circuit on both sides of the magnetic rod ends sufficiently far from the ends of the rod, the metal contaminants can be removed very easily.
This process must be carried out while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment to prevent hand injuries from sharp metal contaminants captured on the rods.
The magnetic separator for fabric filters is suitable for operations where magnetic metal contaminants must be captured from liquids or similar substances passing through a filtration assembly.
When selecting a separator, it is important to consider the material type, required magnetic strength, number of magnetic rods, fabric filter dimensions, operating temperature, material version and safe-cleaning requirements.
We will adapt the separator dimensions to your technology, recommend a suitable separator diameter and length, and help you select the most appropriate magnets.
